- About GroupCalendar
About Group Calendar
Group Calendar allows guilds or groups of friends to share an in-game event calendar. The guild can post raid events and members can post events for dungeons they need to do quests for. Additionally, players can provide feedback to the event's sponsor saying that they will or won't be attending an event. Once installed Group Calendar replaces the minimap current time tooltip and sun & moon icon. This can be used to open the UI or it can be opened using the /calendar command. For instructions on how to set up Group Calendar for your guild or for your personal use, see the online user's manual
New in Group Calendar 4
- FEATURE: New networking code designed for better reliability and scalability
- FEATURE: Role-based signups for more flexibility in forming groups
- FEATURE: You can now edit your own events and get tradeskill cooldown messages while on another realm or faction
- FEATURE: Whisper-based UI allows players not running GC to view and sign up for events
- FEATURE: Backups (both automatic and manual) of your event data to help recover if something goes wrong
- FEATURE: Circled dates and times for events you're attending are now color-coded: yellow for pending, green for confirmed and blue for standby
- FEATURE: Event templates remember up to the last five variations on an event type (you can schedule "Karazhan Alpha" and "Karazhan Beta" and it will remember your setting preferences for both)
- FEATURE: /cal slash command added -- same as /calendar, just shorter, and /calendar still works too
- FEATURE: /cal command now shows help by default (use "/cal show" to show the GUI)
- FEATURE: New '/cal history numdays' command to set the number of days to keep events
- FEATURE: History length is stored in the auto-config data so it can be set for the entire guild at once
- FEATURE: MD5 hash protection to detect damaged event or attendance updates
- FEATURE: Date and time settings are verified by comparing clocks with other users on the network
- FEATURE: Players can now sign up for events as a standby
- FEATURE: Event titles now auto-complete
- FEATURE: Synch period is now two minutes long instead of five
- FEATURE: Database version info in About tab now shows the total number of databases known
- FEATURE: Event attendance list now shows separate totals for accepted and standby players
- FEATURE: Dungeons with a 7 day reset cycle now only show the next reset instead of the next four
- FEATURE: All localization files are UTF8 and all escape sequences have been replaced by their real characters
- FEATURE: /cal reset now resets only the current character, with a new parameter of "realm" to reset the databases for the realm
- FEATURE: Tradeskill reminder messages are smaller
- FEATURE: Brilliant Glass added to tradeskill cooldown reminders
- BUGFIX: Calendars for characters on the opposing faction will no longer be shared outside that faction
- BUGFIX: Default 12h/24h time and Sun/Mon start day can be set in localization files. Currently the German translation will use 24h and Monday by default, all others are still 12h and Sunday
- BUGFIX: Disconnecting the data channel works
- BUGFIX: Guild Rank setting works again in manual configuration
- BUGFIX: Subscribing to an event and later attempting to view the attendees list should no longer re-send the request
- BUGFIX: Pressing enter while typing an attendance comment will now send the attendance request
- BUGFIX: Rebuild Database now also refreshes all attendance requests

nightrunner53 saidHi, can you let us know how to fix, or what is causing guild posted events to disappear? It is becoming a major inconvenience and is causing a lot of problems because rebuilding causes some people who signed up for raids to be removed from the list and lose there spot in the raid. This is urgent guild members are leaving because of this. Other than that thanks for the mod it is very useful.

Mundocani saidI have nothing to tell you that's not covered in the first couple of pages of comments here -- just the same questions for you as for the other people experiencing it:
- What version is the event creator using? If it's not the current beta of 4.1 have him try running that for a while and see if it clears up the problem.
- Are any of the people seeing the events disappear running the current beta of 4.1? If not, have them try running it and see if it clears up the problem.
- Does the event creator use more than one computer to log in? Using multiple computers is supposed to work, but it's difficult for Group Calendar to do because it has to ensure your data is spread well to other guild members to ensure that it makes it to your other computer when you log in there. When the event creator logs in from other computers his will get a warning dialog regarding newer events. He must always hit Accept at both machines or he will delete changes he made from the other computers.
- Does the event creator have a spouse/friend/kid who logs into the creator's account? If they do then they need to know to always hit Accept when that warning dialog regarding newer events comes up and so must the creator. Even better though is to make sure Group Calendar is disabled for the creator's characters on the computers of friends and family.
If none of these solve the problem then I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe do some sleuthing and see if you can find anything that might give me a lead. Other than that I'll always be keeping an eye out for coding errors.

Vladimier saidHello and thanks for a great add on. Our guild has recently noticed events not appearing for many guild members. Some see all events fine, some are missing for others and its the same events that are missing. We populated events for the entire week, and those that had some missing were missing the exact same ones. We tried resetting the .lua file and when I logged back in, I did see the missing events, but a few minutes later, it disappeared again. Any ideas?

Vladimier saidJust did a /cal reset and the events showed. Then about an hour or so later, the same ones disappeared again.

Moleculor saidThe person who set up the events: Are they running at least v4.0.4? I know the only time we've seen that behaviour in our guild is when the person setting up the events is using one of the outdated, buggy versions.

Mundocani saidIs the person who created the events using multiple computers or does s/he have a friend who logs into his account sometimes from their computer? If so, have him go to his main computer and do a "Rebuild Database" under the GC About tab and see if that clears up the problem. It sounds like there are multiple versions of his/her events on the network and it isn't getting resolved correctly.
4.1b4 is a very stable version as well at this point and fixes some other bugs related to using multiple computers. You may want to consider upgrading to that to see if the fixes it contains help clear up the problem as well.

Vladimier saidI am on 41b4, I'll see if the person that is doing the events can update theirs.

Alezio saidAlso having the same problem, i'm in charge of organising our guilds raids but not everbody is seeing all the events i put up. In addition i get messages saying that somebody has signed up for a raid and it is awaiting confirmation from me to approve them, when i goto that event they do not appear on the list.
The rest of the guild and I are using the latest version and i only use one computer for playing.
Edit: I first noticed this problem wheni got a message "you are not in guild" as exiting the game. After reseting things today i've agin got this message as i've exited. Is this related to the problem?

Mundocani saidIt shouldn't be related but that's in interesting point. The "You are not in a guild" message happens because during logout there's a period where the WoW client apparently drops your guild status right before it actually logs you out. I wonder if that's causing Group Calendar to think you've left your guild and triggers its housekeeping tasks of cleaning out your old guild events? It shouldn't cause events you've created to go away, but it could explain events from other guild members going away.
I'll have to look into that some more, though it's really hard to catch it happening since the timing between the logout and when WoW starts claiming you're no longer in a guild is very tight.
Try 4.1b3 if you haven't already -- that has some code to detect the dropped guild stuff and suppress doing the guild data channel commands which generate that message. Don't know if it'll matter, but it'd be nice to know.

Alezio saidI downloaded 4.1b4 yesterday, are you suggesting i downgrade to 4.1b3?

Mundocani saidNo, I just brain-farted and mentioned 4.1b3. I guess I've been saying 4.1b3 for so long now that it's become habit. I meant for you to try the current 4.1 beta, which is 4.1b4.

Mundocani saidDon't know, but I'm not getting any significant bug reports against the 4.1 betas so I suspect I'll be able to stick a fork in it soon.

Mundocani saidv4.1b4 Changes

Dridzt saidAn easier edit to get your minimap clock to work both for GroupCalendar and the new StopWatch by Blizzard.
1. Open \AddOns\GroupCalendar\GroupCalendar.xml in a text editor (preferably something that supports 'goto line')
2. Goto line 107
You'll find a <Scripts> section that starts there and ends few lines below with another </Scripts>
3. Replace it with this block
Left click will open the new Stopwatch, right click the GroupCalendar.
No need to mess with other files.

Mundocani saidI've uploaded 4.1b4, which has *almost* this exact change. The only difference is that I made right-click access the time manager and left-click stil opens GC as it did before. I also added a line to the tooltip similar to Blizzard's which says "Right-click to show clock settings"

gattsryu saidGood call, and if it works to boot! This was my first time working with xml and lua so I don't know what I'm doing really. I thought arg1 was already defined to something else so I made another function.
